Mark your calendar! On October 28, 2016 the Italian Canadian Cultural Association and Dalhousie University will be hosting an exciting event entitled "Italian Alchemies". Winegrunt's very own Robert Buranello will be giving a lecture entitled "Liquid Gold and Buried Treasure: Alchemy and Wine." The talk will be followed by a wine tasting featuring Nova Scotia wines. Thanks to generous donations by 11 local wineries and vineyards, as well as Bishops Cellar and Grape escapes that have kindly lent official ISO tasting glasses, guests will have the pleasure of tasting up to 16 different wines. While the event is free, those interested in attending should RSVP to the Italian Canadian Cultural Association either by email: ICCA[at]eastlink.ca or by phone: (902) 453-5327 The following wines will be available for tasting: L'Acadie Vineyard's Alchemy, 2010 Avondale Sky Winery's Cheverie, 2013 Benjamin Bridge Winery's Méthode Classique, NV Blomidon Estate Winery's Crémant, 2013 and Rosé, 2014 Elmwood Winery's Baco Noir, 2015 and Millot/Kulmann, 2015 Gaspereau Wineyard's Muscat, 2015 Domaine de Grand Pré Winery's Castel (Vintner's Reserve), 2015 Luckett Vineyard's Tidal Bay, 2015 and Black Cab, NV Petite Rivière Winery's Italy Cross, 2012 and Lulu, 2015 Planters Ridge Winery's Chardonnay, 2015 Sainte Famille Wines Limited's L'Acadie Blanc, 2015 and Baco Noir, 2015 The 16th century Swiss philosopher, physician, botanist and astrologer gives us these words of wisdom: "Many have said of Alchemy, that it is for the making of gold and silver. For me such is not the aim, but to consider only what virtue and power may lie in medicines." - Paracelsus Perhaps we can take this line of thinking a little further and contemplate what power and beauty may lie in wine. Cheers!
