Spring is an important time in the industry for the release of the new white vintages, and in Nova Scotia, there is the additional anticipation for the release of the New Tidal Bays. This month's TNT, hosted by Blomidon Estate Winery, gave us and our fellow winegrunters the opportunity to meet with the winemakers and to taste all twelve new 2016 Tiday Bay vintages. For those not so fortunate to receive this sneak peek and one-on-one with the winemakers, there still is the possibility to taste all twelve Tidal Bays without having to drive all over the province from one winery to another. Wines of Nova Scotia is hosting the annual 12 Tides event at the Marriott Harbourfront Hotel in Halifax on May 5, 2017. Each winery will be pouring their new Tidal Bay as well as two other new wines.

Yesterday, Tuesday, April 4, 2017, marked the beginning of this calendar year’s TNT events (Tuesday Night Tastings), those first Tuesday evenings of every month during the wine season (and a bit beyond) in Nova Scotia when local wineries and vineyards showcase their oenological talents and compare and contrast some of the excellent wines their labours have produced. Each month, there is a theme. This month, April, it was vinifera, vitis vinifera, aka old-world grapes. It was hosted by Benjamin Bridge in the very palm of the Gaspereau Valley where, as we arrived toward dusk, we were greeted with a flute of Nova 7 and roaring wood fires as the sun began to set over the ridge ... . Yesterday was 2016's last TNT. It featured sweet wines from 10 Nova Scotia wineries and wineyards. From late harvest, to fruit, to ice, to port-style wines, guests were treated to a beautiful range of sweet wines. At Avondale Sky, with a hint of snow in the air, we had the pleasure of tasting, amoung other treasures, a soon-to-be-released but not yet labeled wine and an unlabeled last of it's kind. These gems where tastfully paired with deletible little morsels of cheese, fruit, and chocolate. After many, long, consecutive days of winegrunting (Yes, we have now made this a verb), last night we got to kick back a little with local friends in the insanely beautiful Gaspereau Valley for TNT, Tuesday Night Tastings, at the gorgeously pastoral location of the soon-to-open (-and-we-can’t-wait-for-it!) Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards in Grand Pré. |
